Aston, PA - The No. 15 Neumann Knights cruised to a 103-74 victory over the Cairn men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon. The Knights shot an impressive 60.8% from the field against a 42.9 clip from the Highlanders.
Gerroid Doughty II led four double-digit scorers four Cairn in the game with 15 points.
The Highlanders trailed Neumann at the half, 50-36 and the Knights expanded that lead with a 53-38 advantage in the second-half.
Neumann's DeShawn Lowman lead all scorers in the game with 29 points.
Neumann steadily grew their lead through the first-half. The Knights led by as many as 12 in the opening 10 minutes after Lowman connected on a layup to make it 28-16 with 10:17 remaining in the half. Later in the half the Knights led by 18 after a layup from Carl Wallace in the final 90 seconds of the half.
Cairn ended the half with layups from
Chris Uhrich and
JD Zamroz in the final minute to cut the Neumann lead to 50-36 at the half.
After the intermission, the Knights continued to grow their lead over the final 20 minutes. While Neumann never really went on a large run, they consistently wore the Highlanders down with strong play in the paint. Neumann won the battle in the key with a 60-16 advantage on points in the paint. Cairn scored just six points in the painted area in the second-half while Neumann connected for an even 30 in both halves.
Neumann led by as many as 30 after Matt O'Keefe put through a layup with under two minutes to play.
Josh Decker hit a three and
Nick Castillo knocked down a jumper late for Cairn's final five points in the 103-74 loss.
Despite the lopsided decision, Cairn used the contest to work 13 different players onto the floor. Eleven different Highlanders scored at least one point on the afternoon.

Seil Park (11) joined Doughty in double-figures. Doughty also led the Highlanders with six boards on the game.
The loss drops Cairn to 5-18 overall and 3-13 in the conference. The Highlanders will take the floor on Wednesday when they host Centenary in their final home game of the 2017 season. Game time is slated for 8:00 p.m. following a pre-game ceremony honoring the seniors in the Mason Activity Center.
