Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Defeated by Nittany Lions

The Highlanders hosted the Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington University this afternoon in an out-of-conference matchup. Cairn could not complete their second straight victory, as they lost by a final score of 3-0.

The Highlanders conceded the first goal of the afternoon when PSU forward Haley Miller held off Highlanders defenseman Sami Thompson and slotted into the left corner. The Highlanders had a couple great chances of their own as Sony MacBain charged in on the Abington keeper, however Cairn could not get on the board with a pivotal goal. Miller netted her second of the game with another individual effort, blasting past keeper Mackenzie Paugh into the right corner. Paugh did play an excellent first half, with numerous fantastic saves of charging PSU Abington attackers.

The Highlanders looked rejuvenated in the second half and had a couple great chances early on. Katie Ruitto and Courtney Novak picked up the play in the midfield to test the Nittany Lions defense. Ruitto controlled the center and Novak raced down the sideline time and again playing piercing crosses into the center of the PSU Abington defense. After a rough start to the season, the Highlanders were unfortunate to catch the Nittany Lions on a hot streak as PSU Abington has won 3 of their last 4 matches. Cairn would concede again when Miller ran through the Highlander defense once more, finding teammate Michelle Latronica with a through ball that was deposited into the back of the net. Despite the lack of goals, the Highlanders did not play a bad offensive match with countless excellent attempts on goal that were saved by the Nittany Lions top-notch keeper. The Highlanders tallied 15 shots with 4 on net for the afternoon.

Cairn plays again this Saturday at Rosemont College at 2 PM.
