BROOKLYN, NY- The Cairn women's soccer team won their third straight game tonight when they defeated The City College of New York under the bright lights of New York City.
Not to be overshadowed by the Cairn men's soccer team recently clinching a playoff berth, the Cairn women are on an excellent streak of their own with 2 straight CSAC victories last week against Notre Dame (MD) and Keystone College. After a slow start against Keystone in their last contest, the Highlanders wasted no time against the Beavers as the two of the captains,
Natalie Lyon and
Courtney Novak, connected to take the lead in the 15th minute. The Beavers leveled the match ten minutes later, but Cairn poured on over the rest of the half, largely led by the stellar play of
Courtney Novak. Known for her propensity for netting long distance shots, Novak played a more all-around match tonight as the forward finished another goal in the 31st, and assisted on
Julianne Albrecht's goal 6 minutes later. The Highlanders skirted into halftime with a commanding 3-1 lead.Â
Cairn continued their dominance in the second half when midfielder
Katie Ruitto got on the board just 2 minutes into the half, staking the Highlanders to a comfortable 4-1 lead. Cairn held fast over the rest of the half, coasting their way to a victory and improving to 7-10 on the season. The Highlanders have a chance to end their season on a 4 game win streak when they host Cedar Crest College this Thursday, for senior day, at 3:30 PM.
