LA PLUME, PA- The Highlanders traveled to Scranton to battle the Keystone Giants in a CSAC matchup. Despite a one goal deficit at halftime, Cairn was able to pull out the win 5-3 due to their stellar second half performance.
Â
Heading to face the Giants on their senior night is never an easy task, but
Payton Emerick was able to temper the wind of the Keystone sails by blasting a shot into the back of the net in the 13
th minute. However, after Emerick's goal the Giants picked up the pressure and blitzed the Cairn goal with 12 shots over the first half. Keystone would net both of their first half goals off of rebounded shots that were parried by Cairn keeper
Mackenzie Paugh. Paugh was forced into 6 saves over the first half, and Cairn tallied 6 shots of their own.
Â
The Highlanders took control in the 2
nd half, sparked by the emergence of Captain
Natalie Lyon on the offensive end. Lyon has played sparingly since her return from injury as she worked back to in game form, and it would appear that this afternoon's contest is clear evidence that she is in fact, back. Lyon netted her first of the game when she got her head on a rebounded
Courtney Novak shot. The two teamed up ten minutes later when Novak played a corner into the box and Lyon volleyed it through the defense for the game-tying goal. The floodgates were officially opened and when
Sara Hayduchok and
Sony MacBain finished two more goals, Cairn had finished their 6
th win of the season with authority. Â
