LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders played an excellent match against the Phoenix of Wilson College, defeating Wilson by a score of 9-2.
Cairn notched the first goal of the afternoon when
Payton Emerick outran the defense and finished off a cross from forward
Sony MacBain. Sara Haydochuk scored a couple minutes later with a spectacular individual run where she evaded multiple Wilson defenders and blasted over the keepers head.
Courtney Novak would score almost instantly after with a deke of her own past the defender and another shot past the Wilson defense. We had a bit of Deja vu as -- minutes later Haydochuk and Novak found the back of the net in quick succession once more with their second goals of the afternoon, putting the Highlanders up 5-0 in the first half.
Sara Haydochuk started the second half on a tear with 2 quick goals to bring her tally to an unbelievable 4 on the afternoon. Haydochuk received two excellent crosses and finished one with her foot and nodded the second past the keeper. The Phoenix would score two goals as well bringing the score slightly closer, but the Cairn attack would soon put the game completely out of reach. Outstanding midfielder
Katie Ruitto, who generally controls most of the action, got on the board herself with a spectacular shot from 25 yards out right over the keeper's head.
Sony MacBain would conclude the Highlanders scoring efforts with an individual effort in the 88th minute.
Novak had 2 goals and an assist, Haydochuk had the aforementioned 4 goals and 1 assist, defender
Carly Eubank tallied an assist, and MacBain also had 1 goal and an assist. The Highlanders host Penn State Abington on October 5 at 3:30 PM seeking a second win in a row.
