Highlanders Complete SUNY Poly Tourney Against Wells and Elms

Marcy, NY - The Cairn men's volleyball team wrapped up the SUNY Poly Wildcat Invitational on Saturday with a matches against Wells and Elms. The Highlanders came up empty in both matches falling by 3-0 finals in each. First it was the Elms Blazers toping the Highlanders 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-19). Later in the afternoon the Wells Express swept the Highlanders 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-15).

The Highlanders will next take the court in the Arcadia Knight Invitational next weekend on Jan. 27 and 28.

Elms College defeats Cairn University 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-19)  -  Box Score

The Cairn Highlanders fell in straight sets to the Elms Blazers, 3-0. The Highlanders struggled throughout the match to string together consistent attacks. On the match the Highlanders swung at a -.038 clip with 18 kills. While the Blazers did not hit all that strong (.119 hitting percentage) they did were more consistent with 27 kills in the match.
 
All three sets were extremely competitive. Midway through each set, the score was within two points either way. It was the Blazers that finished off sets more efficiently, picking up the victory in the morning session.
 
Micah Godshall led the Highlanders with 12 kills in the match. He also led Cairn with five aces. Ryan Ludvik dished out 10 assists in the match and Ben Norton and Juston Wolgemuth finished with nine and eight digs respectively.

Wells College defeats Cairn University 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-15)
The Highlanders were swept by the Wells Express in their final match of the weekend. Cairn collected 25 kills in the match but fell 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-15). The Highlanders swung at a .082 clip during the match compared to a .202 mark for the Express.

Micah Godshall led the Highlanders with 14 kills in the match. His 14 kills were also the most in the match. Ryan Ludvik dished out 19 assists as Cairn's primary setter. Ludvik also collected 11 digs to lead the Highlanders, for Cairn's first double-double of the season.

With 14 kills, Godshall was the only Highlander with a positive hitting percentage with a .289 mark in the match.

As mentioned the Highlanders will take the court next weekend in the Arcadia Knight invitational. The Highlanders will take on the host, Arcadia on Friday night at 7:00 p.m
