Baltimore, MD - The Goucher Gophers scored twice in the opening 90 seconds and never looked back in an 8-0 victory over the Cairn Highlanders on Saturday morning. The Gophers scored four goals in each half before play was halted in the 71st minute due to the extreme heat. Four different Gophers picked up goals with Samantha Turner leading the way with a hat trick.
Battling against the sweltering heat and a full-strength Goucher roster, the Highlanders played Saturday morning with a limited squad. Despite playing with a thin roster the Highlanders held the Gophers scoreless for a 30 minute stretch in the middle of the first-half.

Mackenzie Paugh was credited with seven saves in the match, but her presence was much larger than her stat line might indicate
. The Gophers had numerous one-on-one opportunities that the junior keeper halted. Despite the 8-0 decision, the count could have been worse if not for the play of Paugh between the pipes.
With air temperatures in the mid-90s and temperatures on the Goucher turf-field well into the triple digits, the game was called in the 71st minute with the Gophers picking up a 8-0 victory.
The Highlanders will next take the field on Wednesday when they travel to Valley Forge. Game time slated for 4:00 p.m.
