Langhorne, PA - It took the Cairn Highlanders less than five minutes to take a two-goal lead over the visiting Central Penn Knights on Saturday afternoon. The Highlanders showed no let up on the offensive attack tallying five more times en route to a 7-0 victory over the Knights.
Cairn scored three before the half and added four more after the break on a sweltering Saturday evening. Six different Highlanders found the back of the net with
Reagan Lam registering his first-two career goals to lead Cairn with four points in the contest.
Connor Eby broke the seal with a tally in the fourth minute off a cross from
Brett Kikendall. Kikendall sent a low ball to the front of the goalmouth where Eby stood waiting. Eby took a touch and in traffic, turned and tucked one in the right corner of the goal to give Cairn a 1-0 lead.
Not to be outdone by his senior captain, Kikendall tallied a goal of his own less than 20 seconds later. Kikendall and
Brendan Keller played a little give and go at the top of the box and when Keller's one-touch found the foot of Kikendall, he fired a shot to the right-post from ten yards out for the Highlanders' second tally in the fourth minute.
Cairn would wait almost 30 minutes until they would find the back of the net next. The Highlanders connected off the foot of
Paul Franco from just outside the box on the left side.
Noah Akers found Franco with a left-footed one-touch, Franco put a strike on frame that the Central Penn goalie mishandled and trickled into the back of the net. The goal was Franco's first of the season and gave the Highlanders a 3-0 cushion heading into the second-half.
After the break Cairn put through four more to give them the 7-0 final. Highlighting the second-half barrage were the first career goals by a trio of Highlanders.
Daniel Rye and
John Michael Redding scored in the 67th and 78th minute, respectively, while Regan Lam tallied in the 62nd minute and then put the cherry on top with a tremendous goal in the 89th minute. On that final goal, Redding blew past his defender on the left side before sending a beautiful cross to the right-side of the box where Lam ran onto the ball and finished the cross with a one-touch goal.
On the game the Highlanders collected 35 shots while holding the Knights without an attempt. This afternoon's match marked both the most shots for and few shots against in the
Luke Gibson era at Cairn.
The Highlanders will next take the field on Monday when they host Williamson College of the Trades at 4:00 p.m.
