Langhorne, PA - The Cairn Highlanders used four first-half goals to take an early lead before riding the momentum to a 5-0 victory over the Williamson College of the Trades Mechanics, their second-straight shutout.
Connor Eby scored the game-winner for the second consecutive contest and he and
Brett Kikendall had a hand in each Cairn's first three goals.
The Highlanders dominated play throughout the afternoon firing 39 shots against just seven for the Mechanics. Cairn put 16 of those shots on frame connecting for five goals and forcing Williamson's keepers to make 11 saves.
Â
Playing their second game in three days, with a rivalry match tomorrow against Lancaster Bible, the Highlanders picked up right where they left off on Saturday evening. Cairn scored in the seventh, 17th, and 19th minutes to open up a comfortable 3-0 lead over the visiting Mechanics. As noted,
Connor Eby opened the scoring with a tally off a corner kick from
Brett Kikendall. Kikendall sent a low service into the box from the right-side that found the foot of Eby, who redirected it into the back of the net.
Â
Ten minutes, and eight shots later, the Highlanders would tally again. This time around it was Eby setting up Kikendall for the goal. After a foul just outside the box on the left side gave Cairn a free kick, Eby sent a pass on the restart to the top of the box for Kikendall. The freshman collected the pass with plenty of space and fired a right-footed shot that beat the keeper and gave Cairn a 2-0 lead.
Â
Not even two minutes later, Eby sent a cross high into the box toward the far post. The service found the head of
Brendan Keller who redirected it toward the center of the goalmouth for Kikendall, who volleyed the header into the upper-90 on the right-side for his fourth tally of the year.
Â
In the 33rd minute,
Paul Franco found a moment of brilliance with a riffle from the top of the eighteen. Franco was played a long-ball down the left side by
Jared Dodson and Franco ran onto the ball with a head of steam for the one-touch rip from the top of the box on the left-side. Franco's tally marked his second-consecutive game with a goal.
Â
In the second-half
John Michael Redding scored in the 51st minute with a nifty move to create space on the left-side of the box before firing a shot through the keepers' hands and into the goal for his second tally in as many games.
Â
The Mechanics generated more momentum in the second-half, firing five shots (three on frame) but they were turned away by
Luke Ciraky who came on at the half after
Mark Heater made one save in the first-half.
Â
Over their last two games the Highlanders have scored 12 goals, their most in a two-game stretch since Oct. 25-29, 2007 when they scored 13 goals over 180 minutes against Davis College (10-0) and Lancaster Bible College (3-0) in the NCCAA II East Region Tournament.
Â
The Highlanders will look to continue their recent momentum into tomorrow's contest, when they host rival Lancaster Bible College at 4:00 p.m.
