Highlanders Take Down Nittany Lions 7-3 On The Road

Jenkintown, PA – The Highlanders won their second game in as many days on Wednesday afternoon by defeating Penn State Abington 7-3. Cairn University took advantage of five unearned runs to get past the Nittany Lions, who had four more hits than the Highlanders in the game (11-7).
 
Penn State Abington committed five errors throughout the game compared to the Highlanders' one. Additionaly, the Nittany Lions gave up the game-winning run in the sixth inning after a bases-loaded walk put Cairn ahead 4-3.
 
Despite the errors and unearned runs, Joey Nieves-Markee emerged as the leading hitter for the Highlanders. Nieves-Markee hit two doubles in the game, both of which scored Keith LeNoue. The senior also scored two runs in the game and had a walk. LeNoue was also 2-for-4 in the game.
 
Daniel Morales picked up the win for the Highlanders and improved to 2-2 this season. Matt Trotman pitched three innings of relief with three strikeouts and one hit. Jackson Godfrey finished out the ninth inning of the game on the mound.
 
The final two runs of the game were scored after a failed pick-off attempt allowed Nieves-Markee and Joffrey Rosa to reach home. Rosa finished the game 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk.
 
With the win Cairn improved to 10-8 overall, while Penn State Abington dropped to 9-14 on the year. The Highlanders will return to action this Saturday when they host Keystone College for a doubleheader.
