Langhorne, PA – Cairn University won the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against Gwynedd Mercy for their 17th overall this season. The Highlanders won 5-2 in game one and lost the second game in a 5-0 shutout.
The last time the Highlanders had 17 wins in a season was back in 1992, well before Cairn was a member of the NCAA. Cairn also now has three conference wins this season; tying the most they have had since 2008.
John Burlaga pitched the complete game and collected the win for the Highlanders with three strikeouts, two earned runs, and no walks.
Aaron Takacs led the team from the plate in the win by going 3-for-3 with a run scored, a walk, and a double.
Caleb Lang was 2-for-2 with two RBI, a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and a stolen base.
Cairn scored one run in the bottom of the first inning and trailed 2-1 until the fifth inning.

Lang put the nail in the coffin as he hit a two-RBI single in the sixth to score Nieves-Markee and
Joffrey Rosa. The Highlanders finished off the game in the seventh with a commanding 6-4-3 double play.
Unfortunately in game two, the Highlanders were held to just three hits with Gino Tripodi on the mound. Gwynedd Mercy shut out the Highlanders 5-0 to take the series 2-1.
The Highlanders moved to 17-16 overall this season and 3-12 in the CSAC with the results. Gwynedd Mercy went to 15-15 overall and 8-4 in the conference. Cairn will next travel to the College of New Jersey on Tuesday, April 26th, to take on the Lions.
