Baseball Picks Up Two Wins Over Summit University

Langhorne, PA – The Highlanders of Cairn University defeated Summit University in two games on Wednesday afternoon and improved to 13-10 overall. Thirteen wins is the highest number in a season for the program since 2005 when they won 16 games.

Cairn won 3-1 in the opening game and 12-4 in the second. Peter Feitsma picked up his first win of the season on the mound in game one, while Jacob Knox also got his first win after pitching in game two.

Both Feitsma and Knox did not give up any runs in their wins and only faced 15 batters each in four innings of work.

Joey Nieves-Markee (2-for-2) and Alejandro Fernandez (3-for-3) were both perfect from the plate in game one and each had one run scored. Keith LeNoue batted in the first runner, while Nieves-Markee batted in the eventual winning run in the same inning.

The Highlanders added a third run in the fifth inning after a double from Aaron Takacs scored Nieves-Markee. Summit's run came in the top of the fifth inning after a double steal attempt resulted in an error on the throw to home plate.

Cairn utilized a six-run first inning in game two of the doubleheader and stayed ahead throughout the game. At one point the Highlanders led 11-0 but the Defenders scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Daniel Morales highlighted the bats in game two going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Aaron Takacs was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Both Morales and Takacs hit doubles in the game as well.

The Highlanders will try to remain in the win column as they host Centenary College this Friday, April 15th, at 3:00 p.m. for a single game.
