Saints Too Much For Highlanders; Fall 3-0

Langhorne, PA – The Highlanders lost a three-set match to the Saints of Marymount University on Saturday afternoon for their ninth setback in the CVC. Cairn previously played at Marymount and took the Saints to five sets, but the Saints proved too strong in this one and won the match 25-17, 25-20, 25-17.
 
Marymount took an early lead in the first set, 10-4, which the Highlanders could not recover from. The Highlanders then fell behind 19-9 in the second set but Cairn came back with a 6-1 run, cutting the deficit in half.
 
Unfortunately the Highlanders could not complete the comeback and were unable to get the third set back from Marymount. Cairn tied the set at 12-12 but a 5-1 run gave the Saints a 17-13 lead that they built off of.
 
Andy Willits led the Highlanders in attacking with 13 kills and a .409 attack percentage. Willits also had two service aces and two block assists. Matthew Gump finished with 23 assists and led the team in digs with six. Micah Godshall hit seven kills, followed by Dan Winters with five; Winters led the team in block assists with four.
 
TJ Wiechecki and Graham Clark each led the Saints with nine kills apiece, while Albert Johansson led the team in digs with seven. TJ Wiechecki and Tomasz Ksiazkiewicz led the team in block assists with six each.
 
With the loss, Cairn dropped to 4-11 overall and 0-9 in the CVC. Marymount improved to 13-6 overall and 6-2 in the conference with the win. The Highlanders will head into spring break and return to the court on March 16, to host New Jersey City University.
