Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Highlanders Swept By Gothic Knights At Home

Langhorne, PA – Cairn men's volleyball dropped a non-conference match to New Jersey City University on Wednesday evening with a 3-0 score. The Highlanders kept the 2nd and 3rd sets close, scoring 22 points in each, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Gothic Knights.

The Highlanders fell into a hole early on in the first set and had to take a timeout with a 6-1 deficit. The Gotchic Knights continued to build on that lead, going ahead 10-3 and 13-5. From there the Highlanders came back to come within three at 15-12.

New Jersey City went on to win the first set 25-19 behind 14 kills, with just six coming from the Highlanders' side of the court. Overall, Sheldon Coure led the Gotchic Knights in kills with 13, while Erick Nascimento collected 27 assists.

The Highlanders again fell behind to start the second set, but they stayed within a point, at 11-10, after a block assist from Micah Godshall and Dan Winters. Winters finished with match with five total blocks to lead both teams.

Cairn called a timeout down 17-13 in the second set but came out with a 4-1 run to get to within one at 18-17.  The Highlander came to within a point three more times in the set but were not able to secure the points to take a lead.

Micah Godshall led the Highlanders in attacking with 11 kills and a .308 attack percentage; one of his best performances this season. Matthew Gump finished with 21 assists, while Godshall and Ryan Ludvik led the team with nine digs each.

The Highlanders led the third set early on but an 8-2 run from the Gothic Knights gave them a 15-10 lead. Cairn eventually came back to within a point at 23-22 following a 5-1 run of their own but ultimately New Jersey City kept the lead.

Cairn dropped to 4-12 overall with the loss, while New Jersey City improved to 15-14 on the year. The Highlanders will return to the court on Tuesday, March 22, for their final home game of the season against No. 5 Rutgers-Newark.
