Cairn Drops Three-Setter To Eastern Mennonite

Langhorne, PA – Cairn men's volleyball hosted Eastern Mennonite University on Friday evening, where the Royals defeated the Highlanders 3-0. Eastern Mennonite powered past Cairn with 48 total kills on 99 attacks for a .293 attack percentage in the match.
 
The Highlanders matched up well with the Royals in the first set and held an early 7-3 lead. The Royals came back with a 5-0 run but from there the two teams played each other point for point. With the game tied at 18-18, the Royals won the next two points, forcing the Highlanders to call timeout.
 
Cairn won the next point to bring them within one, but two straight points from Eastern Mennonite forced another Cairn timeout. David Dager collected two points on kills for the Highlanders after the timeout but the Royals completed the win in set one 25-22.
 
Eastern Mennonite took an early lead in set two and Cairn could not recover throughout the set. The Highlanders stayed within striking distance but the Royals did not surrender the lead and went on to win 25-20. Cairn then dropped the third set 25-13.
 
Micah Godshall led the offensive effort for the Highlanders with 10 kills, followed by Andy Willits with seven. Setter Matthew Gump finished with 24 assists with five total blocks and two kils. Ryan Ludvik led the team in digs with nine.
 
The Royals' leading hitter Scott Brigham finished with 15 kills in the match, followed by Travis Abele with nine. Abele also led the team in digs with eight, while Christian Taylor collected 34 assists as the setter.
 
Cairn dropped to 4-10 on the season and 0-8 in the conference with the loss. Eastern Mennonite improved to 9-8 overall and 3-4 in the CVC with the win. The Highlanders will turn around and host Marymount University tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
