Highlanders Drop Two To Mighty Macs In Sweep

Immaculata, PA – The Mighty Macs completed the sweep over the Highlanders on Saturday afternoon as Cairn lost two tight games in the doubleheader. Immaculata escaped with a 6-4 win in game one and a 5-4 win in game two to win all three games in the series.

The Mighty Macs put Cairn into an early 5-1 hole in game one after two innings, but the Highlanders did their best to avoid a repeat of Friday's result. Cairn held Immaculata to just one run in the rest of the game while the Highlanders staged a comeback.

The Highlanders cut the lead to 5-2 in the third inning after a single by Caleb Lang scored Aaron Takacs. Later on in the fifth inning, Lang stepped up to the plate with two runners on base and two outs. The Mighty Macs made a pitching change but Lang hit a triple down the right field line to score two runs and come within one at 5-4.

Unfortunately the Mighty Macs added one more run in the bottom of the fifth to lead 6-4 and held off the Highlanders the rest of the game. Daniel Morales picked up the loss for the Highlanders on the hill, while Eddie Decker got the win for the Mighty Macs and Nick Campione collected the save.

In game two, Sam Dralle started on the mound for the Highlanders and pitched a no-hitter through five innings with five strikeouts and five walks. Matt Trotman and Jackson Godfrey came in to relieve in the sixth inning and gave up two runs each.

On a series of bunts from the Mighty Macs in the sixth inning, Immaculata opened up a 5-1 lead on the Highlanders. Ryan Tecco, Brad Misialek and Rick DiDomenico all laid down bunts that scored runners.

Once again the Highlanders had to try to come back from a four-run deficit and they nearly did just that. Zachary Vegh started it off with a pinch-hit single to score Matthew Buckery. Aaron Takacs then singled to center field and scored Kyle Wolfe.

With the game at 5-3 in the top of the seventh and one out, Caleb Lang grounded out to the first baseman and drove in Vegh. Daniel Morales stepped up with two runners still on base and a chance to take the lead. Morales hit a hard line drive towards the first baseman but he was able to make the grab for the final out of the game.

Nick Campione came in for the Mighty Macs to pitch the final two outs of the inning and collected his second save of the game.

Aaron Takacs led the Highlanders by going 3-3 with two RBI and one hit by pitch. Kyle Wolfe had one hit with two runs scored.

The Highlanders fell to 5-7 overall with the losses and 0-3 in the conference. Immaculata improved to 10-7 on the season and 3-0 in the CSAC with the win. Cairn will next travel to Penn State Brandywine on Tuesday, Mar. 22.
