Baseball Downed By Mighty Macs In CSAC Opener

Langhorne, PA – The Highlanders opened conference play on Friday when they hosted Immaculata University on their home field and stumbled 15-1. The Mighty Macs collected 18 hits throughout the game while striking out 10 Highlanders en route to the win.
 
Immaculata's starting pitcher, Dan Whalen, collected eight strikeouts in seven innings of work and allowed one earned run. The Highlanders had eight hits overall but stranded nine runners on base, while the Mighty Macs stranded five runners.
 
Brett Marks led the Highlanders from the plate, going 2-3 with the lone run batted in. Aaron Takacs was also 2-3 in the game, while Trent Fiori was 1-3 and scored the team's only run. Eric Stinglen started on the mound for the Highlanders and picked up the loss.
 
Mike Lascomb led the Mighty Macs with five RBI on two hits including a three-run homer in the fourth inning. Five other Mighty Macs also finished with two hits in the game, adding to their total.
 
Immaculata utilized two big innings with six runs scored in the fourth and five runs in the eighth to amass their 14-run lead. Cairn scored their run in the seventh inning after Fiori hit a doubled to right field and Marks hit him home on a single.
 
Cairn will turn around and play Immaculata tomorrow in a doubleheader in Immaculata, Pa. With the loss the Highlanders dropped to 5-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference. The Mighty Macs improved to 8-7 overall and 1-0 in the CSAC with the win.
