Highlanders Can't Hold Off Eagles, Fall 3-0

Langhorne, PA – The Highlanders hosted Juniata College on Saturday afternoon, where the No. 15 ranked Eagles defeated Cairn University 3-0. Cairn finished with a positive attack percentage but could not find as many opportunities as the Eagles to attack the ball.

The Eagles had a total of 84 attacks, with 42 of them going down for a kill. The Highlanders finished with just 18 kills on 67 attacks. Kyle Seeley found the ball coming his way for the Eagles and led the team with 16 kills overall.

Micah Godshall led the Highlanders with six kills, followed by Matthew Gump with four. Gump also finished the match with 13 assists and three aces. Ryan Ludvik led the team in digs with five.

Despite the statistical advantage the Eagles held over the Highlanders, Cairn had chances to win both the second and third sets of the match. Juniata committed 18 service errors throughout to help out the Highlanders.

Cairn held a 20-18 lead in the second set after a 5-0 run with Micah Godshall at the service line. The Highlanders kept the lead until Juniata tied the game at 21-21 but finished off the set following a block and a service ace.

In the third set, the Highlanders were in the lead 19-16 following a kill tight at the net by Matthew Gump. Juniata then went on a 5-0 run to lead 21-19 but kept Cairn in the set with two service errors. With Juniata at match point, Tyler Schuhly kept the Highlanders within two but an error on the next serve gave the Eagles the win.
