Langhorne, PA – Cairn University returned to their home court on Friday evening to host No. 8 Stevenson University in a Continental Volleyball Conference match. The Mustangs swept the Highlanders 3-0 in the match after previously falling by the same score to Stevenson earlier in the season.
The set scores directly reflected the number of kills that the Highlanders were able to hit in each. Cairn hit nine kills in the first set, 11 in the second, and 13 in the third; while the Highlanders' total points increased from 17, to 19, and to 21 over the match.
Overall, Stevenson had 42 kills in the match to Cairn's 33, and collected 34 digs to the Highlanders' 24. The Mustangs were also able to utilize their large roster and use their starters for the first two sets.
David Dager led the attacking for Cairn with 10 kills and four errors, while
Andy Willits finished with nine kills and eight errors. Willits also had the only two aces for the Highlanders.
Matthew Gump led both teams in assists with 29 and
Ryan Ludvik finished with 11 digs to lead both teams.
Jason Gardner finished with six kills over two sets to lead the Mustangs, while Rob Wingert dished out 25 assists. Johnny Kimenhour led Stevenson with four total blocks.
The Highlanders will next host John Jay College on Tuesday, Feb. 23, in non-conference action. The Mustangs improved to 11-2 overall and 6-0 in the CVC with the win, while the Highlanders dropped to 3-7 overall and 0-5 in the CVC with the loss.
