Langhorne, PA – Cairn University men's volleyball defeated John Jay College in straight sets on Tuesday evening to improve to 4-7 overall this season. The Highlanders hit for their best percentage this season as they had 35 kills with just 11 errors for a .338 percentage.
Cairn won the match with set scores of 25-20, 25-17, and 25-11; hitting a .611 percentage in the third set. The Highlanders also had a total of nine aces, six blocks, and 35 digs throughout the match.
Micah Godshall led the team with nine kills and two errors on 18 attempts.
David Dager followed with seven kills and a .500 attack percentage.
Matthew Gump finished with 30 assists as the setter, while adding two block assists and four digs.
Ryan Ludvik led the team on the defense with 17 digs; his best performance of the season from the back row.
Jack Palleschi led the Bloodhounds and all attackers in the game with 12 kills on 31 attempts. Nicholas Anderson finished with 17 assists, while Francisco Miranda collected six digs for John Jay.
In the first set, Cairn went on a 4-1 run to take an 11-7 lead in the game and increased that lead to 14-8. John Jay came back with a 4-0 run of their own to cut the lead to 14-12. Cairn later went on another 4-0 run with
Juston Wolgemuth at the service line to go ahead 23-17 and the Highlanders finished off the first match 25-20.
Cairn stymied the attempts from John Jay in the second and third sets with solid sets and attacking efforts.
Dan Winters went error-less in the game with five kills, while
Andy Willits (5 kills),
Tyler Schuhly (3 kills), and
Juston Wolgemuth (3 kills) also hit with a positive percentage.
The Highlanders will next host Thiel College this Friday, Feb. 26, to continue play in the Continental Volleyball Conference.
