Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Doughty's 30 Points Not Enough To Get Past Cyclones

Langhorne, PAGerroid Doughty II scored a season-high 30 points on Monday night but it wasn't enough to defeat the Cyclones who won 92-80. Centenary's Myles McLeod had a career night of his own as he scored 36 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the winning effort.

Doughty shot 13-20 from the floor including 4-7 from the three-point line on his way to 30 points on the night. Doughty also led the team in rebounding with nine. Julian Collazo scored 16 points and dished out five assists. Josh Vlna continued to shoot the ball well from beyond the arc, going 4-7 and scoring 14 points.

The Highlanders started off the game on the wrong foot and the Cyclones quickly jumped out to an 18-3 lead. From there Cairn went on an 8-0 run to bring the deficit to seven and would eventually come to within three at 27-24 with 6:47 left in the half.

Unfortunately Cairn could not build off the momentum gained and went into the locker room at halftime down 45-33. McLeod had already put up 20 points and eight rebounds in the first 20 minutes and was 7-7 from the free throw line.

For the game, McLeod was 13-15 from the free throw line and as a team the Cyclones shot 80% from the charity stripe. By comparison, the Highlanders shot 60.9% from the free-throw line (14-23).

The Cylones' lead stayed at around 12 points for most of the second half but the Highlanders gained momentum once again and chipped away the deficit. Vlna made a three-pointer to bring the lead down to eight points and just over a minute later Doughty made a three to cut the lead to seven.

An offensive foul gave the ball back to the Highlanders and Doughty made a jumper to bring the lead to 74-69 with 6:55 on the clock. A couple of empty possessions went by for both teams and Collazo picked up a foul on the way to the basket, made both of his free throws, and the lead was cut to three.

Unfortunately that was where they Highlanders' run ended and the Cyclones went up 86-73 following a 12-2 stretch. As a team, the Highlanders shot 50% from the floor (28-56), but the Cyclones bested that by shooting 57.9% (33-57).

With the loss, Cairn dropped to 7-12 overall and 3-9 in the conference. Centenary College improved to 11-8 overall and 7-5 in the conference with the win. The Highlanders will next host Rosemont College for their second meeting of the season on Wednesday, Feb. 3.
