Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Cairn women's volleyball team traveled to King's College (PA) on Saturday afternoon for a tri-match match against King's College and Bryn Athyn College. The Highlanders dropped their opening match against Bryn Athyn 3-1 (21-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-8), before getting swept by King's College 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-13).

The Highlanders won their first set of the day with a 25-21 victory over the Lions. The Lions rebounded to take the next three sets and defeat the Highlanders by a 3-0 final.
Whitney Seidel and
Olivia Smiley led the Highlanders with 11 kills each. Four Highlanders collected 11 digs apiece to lead Cairn and
Liz White earned 32 assists in the loss.
Saturday's contest was a rematch of a thriller in the Mason Activity Center from earlier this season. On Sept. 14, the Highlanders won the first two sets before the Lions came storming back to claim the final three games and down the Highlanders 3-2.
On Saturday the match started very similarly to their previous meeting with the Highlanders taking the first set by a 25-14 final. Continuing the trend, the Lions flexed their muscles with victories in the next three sets en route to a 3-1 final. The closest of the final three games was the third set that the Highlanders dropped 25-23. The Lions claimed the fourth and final set by an impressive 25-8 margin.
As mentioned the Highlanders were led offensively by Seidel and Smiley who each recorded 11 kills. The duo combined to swing at a .414 mark in the match.

The Highlanders dropped the night-cap of their tri-match on Saturday by a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-13) final.
Olivia Smiley led Cairn with eight kills in the match.
In addition to her eight kills, Smiley collected a block and three digs in the loss. She hit an impressive .471 in the match. On the day, the freshman led Cairn with 19 kills and a .459 hitting percentage.
Liz White picked up 14 assists in the three sets.
The Monarchs didn't look back after a 25-15 victory in the first set en route to the 3-0 final.
With the pair of losses the Highlanders fall to 4-15 on the season. The Highlanders will next take the court on Tuesday when they travel to Lancaster Bible College to take on the Chargers at 5:00 p.m.
