Rosemont, PA - The Highlanders jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Rosemont in the first 17 minutes with goals from
Brendan Keller and
Zack Nelson. Rosemont battled back and tied the match at 2-2 in the 72nd minute, but late goals by
Connor Eby and
Brett Kikendall gave the Highlanders the 4-2 victory.
Cairn used four different goal scorers in their third-highest scoring game of the season.
The Highlanders pulled out the 4-2 victory despite being outshot in the match 17-14.
Cairn opened the match with a goal in just the seventh minute on their first shot on the afternoon.
Joey Weaver sent a ball into the box for Nelson, who eluded a defender and connected for his fifth goal of the season.
Just over 10 minutes later,
Brendan Keller doubled the lead for the Highlanders with a goal int he 17th minute. A long through ball found Keller and he converted for his fifth goal of the season.
Rosemont countered for a goal in the 28th minute to cut the Highlanders' lead in half.
The score stood at 2-1 through halftime. At the break, the Ravens had doubled up the Highlanders in shots 10-5, but Cairn held the 2-1 advantage.
For a majority of the second-half it looked as if the 2-1 lead was going to hold up, but Rosemont scored their second-straight goal in the 72nd minute to tie the match at 2-2. The Ravens found their second goal of the match on a free kick from 25 yards out.
Play in the second-half turned much more physical than it was in the first. Between the two teams there were six yellow cards handed out. Cairn picked up two cards while the Ravens were cautioned four times.
With 10 minutes remaining and the score still even at 2-2
Connor Eby took the ball from the defense and went on a breakaway before scoring from the top of the box for his third goal of the season. Including his tally on Saturday, Eby has found the back of the net three times and all three of his goals have been game winners.
Brett Kikendall added some insurance with a fourth Cairn goal in the 84th minute. Kikendall's goal came on a free kick from the top of the box and was his team-leading sixth tally of the season.
The Highlanders came away with the 4-2 victory and improved the Highlanders to 2-5-0 in the CSAC and 6-10-1 overall.
The Highlanders will next take the field on Wednesday when they host Immaculata University at 3:00 p.m. in their final home game of the season.
