Mighty Macs Blank Highlanders on Senior Day

Langhorne, PA - The Cairn men's soccer team was shutout in their home finale on a brisk Wednesday afternoon by the visiting Immaculata Mighty Macs 3-0. The Mighty Macs scored in the seventh minute to take an early 1-0 lead. The 1-0 advantage stood until the first minute of the second-half when Immaculata doubled their lead with a goal on a set piece. Immaculata put their third goal on the board in the 65th minute on a penalty kick.
 
The Highlanders held control of the majority of the first-half, but struggled at times to generate quality offensive chances. Cairn did take seven shots in the half, but forced the Mighty Macs to make sure a pair of saves with two shots on goal.
 
Through the first 45 minutes the Highlanders held a 7-4 advantage in shots, but Immaculata made the most of their limited changes in the first-half. The Mighty Macs connected in the seventh minute when Alex Noel poked the ball around Mark Heater on the right-side of the box and sent a cross to the center of the goalmouth were Nick Boule was waiting to hit it home for the 1-0 lead.
 
The Mighty Macs added to their lead just moments after half-time. A Cairn foul inside of midfield set up a free kick for Immaculata. The Might Macs played the free kick into the center of the box where it was headed twice before it tricked into the side netting off the head of Pat Friend.
 
Cairn struggled to get the offense going in the second-half, accumulating just four shots in the period. Playing in his final match in Langhorne, Connor Eby took two of the four attempts in the second-half, sending both wide.
 
In the 65th minute Immaculata found their third and final tally of the match when Alex Noel calmly stepped up and buried a penalty kick for his ninth goal of the season.
 
On the afternoon both the Mighty Macs and Highlanders were square in shots at 11-11.

The Highlanders will take the field on Saturday in their final game of the season when they travel to Clarks Summit on Saturday to take on the Defenders at 3:00 p.m.
