Langhorne, PA - The Cairn Highlanders dropped a CSAC contest with the visiting Cavaliers of Cabrini University on Tuesday evening by a 3-0 (25-10, 25-9, 25-6). Cabrini swung an impressive .438 on the evening compared to the Highlanders .029 mark on the evening.
Haley Sheehan led Cairn with five kills on the evening;
Whitney Seidel collected four kills while
Olivia Smiley chimed in with three.
Coming into the evenings match-up the Cavaliers were just a few minutes removed from an easy 3-0 victory over the Cedar Crest Falcons. The Mason Activity Center hosted the Falcons and Cavaliers at 5:30 p.m. In the match the Cavaliers jumped out to a massive lead in the first set before cruising to a 3-0 (25-2, 25-14, 25-12).
The Cavaliers continued their strong play right into their match with the Highlanders. While Cairn hung with Cabrini for the first few point the Cavaliers used an 11-1 run to take a 17-7 lead in the first set. After a service error, Cabrini rattled off seven more points in a row. Facing set point, Cairn did grab a pair of kills from
Haley Sheehan and
Whitney Seidel, but it wasn't enough as Cabrini won the set 25-10.
Cabrini took a comfortable lead at the beginning of set two with a 15-3 run. After this early the Highlanders did take three of the next four points, thanks in part to kills by Sheehan and
Ashley Chamberlin. Cabrini ended the set on a 9-3 run to win the set 25-9.
In the third, and what turned out to be final set, the Cavaliers had their most dominate set of the match. With Emily Shannon serving, Cabrini scored 12-straight points including three service aces to take a 21-4 lead. Cairn did pick up a pair of points late with a kill by Sheehan and an attack error. Kassie Ockford capped off the set, and match, with a kill to to give Cabrini the 25-6 victory in the set and a 3-0 victory in the match.
Cairn will have a quick turnaround as they take the court on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. when they host Rosemont on Senior Night. Be sure to be in you're seat at 7:15 p.m. for a special presentation to honor the Highlanders' three seniors.
