Highlanders Fall To Mighty Macs In Return Contest

Immaculata, PA – Cairn University lost their fourth straight on Thursday night after recording a close, 70-63 loss at Immaculata University in men's basketball. The Highlanders had previously defeated the Mighty Macs earlier this season in Langhorne, 91-78.

The Highlanders fell below their season average in field goal percentage by shooting 22-60 from the floor for 36.7%. However, Cairn was able to out-rebound Immaculata 44-40 and the Highlanders also had more assists, 13-10.

The difference-maker for the Mighty Macs was that they were able to convert 23 points off of Highlander turnovers. On the contrary, Cairn scored just six points off of turnovers by Immaculata.

Leading the team for Cairn was Gerroid Doughty II with 21 points, pushing his season average up to 19.2 per game. JD Zamroz had his best performance of this season with 15 points; 12 of which coming from beyond the arc (4-8). Zamroz also led the team in assists with four.

Jason Kuntzelman and Jordan Sharpe led the team in the rebounding effort with seven boards a piece. Unfortunately the starters didn't get much support in the game as just two points came off the bench.

The Highlanders were able to get the seven-point halftime lead for the Mighty Macs down to four in the second half but they were left with just 37 seconds on the clock. The Mighty Macs then made five of six free throws down the stretch to stay ahead and win by seven.

With the loss, Cairn dropped to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference. Immaculata improved to 4-8 overall and 3-2 in the CSAC with the win. The Highlanders will next host Keystone College on Saturday, Jan. 9, at 1 p.m.
