Langhorne, PA – The Highlanders returned to the court after the break between semesters on Tuesday evening and dropped a conference game to Cabrini College, 95-83. The loss puts the Highlanders at the .500 mark for overall record (5-5) and conference record (2-2).
Leading the team for Cairn was
Julian Collazo with 22 points on 11-19 shooting from the floor.
Gerroid Doughty II followed Collazo with 18 points in the game; Doughty also led the team in assists with seven.
Kyle Bonner and
Jason Kuntzelman also finished in double digits with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Cavaliers were in relative control of the game from start to finish, despite a few scoring streaks from the Highlanders while down on the scoreboard. Leading the scoring for Cabrini was Ivan Robinson III with 29 points, followed by Tyheim Monroe with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
One disparity between the two teams throughout the game were the free-throw attempts. The Cavaliers were 22-28 from the charity stripe, while the Highlanders made it there just five times and made four of them. The foul count was 23-11 in favor of the Cavaliers.
The largest lead for the Cavaliers in the first half came with 3:22 left at 11 points. However, the Highlanders were able to reduce the deficit to two following two made three-pointers by
Josh Vlna. Cabrini was then able to enter the halftime break up by seven, 48-41.
The Cavaliers quickly regained their double-digit lead in the second half and held on to it for the duration of the second 20 minutes. Cabrini improved to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference with the win. The return trip for these two teams is scheduled for Jan. 30, 2016.
Cairn will look to bounce back on Thursday, Jan. 7, when they travel to Immaculata University for their second meeting of the season.
