Clarks Summit, PA – The Highlanders traveled to Summit University Wednesday evening where they fell to the Defenders by a score of 96-75. Cairn led by 10 points at the half but Summit found a way to score 64 points in the second half on their way to the win.
Overall, the Defenders simply shot a much higher percentage than the Highlanders, especially in the second half. Summit shot 22-35 (62.8%) from the floor in the second half, compared to Cairn's 7-34 (20.6%).
Part of the struggle for the Highlanders was figuring out how to deal with Summit's tall forward, Nate Wiersma. Wiersma led the Defenders in scoring with 21 points on 9-13 shooting from the floor.
Kyle Bonner led the scoring for the Highlanders with 15 points, while
JD Zamroz finished with 13 and
Gerroid Doughty II had 12. Four Highlanders came off the bench and scored six points, while
Julian Collazo led the team in rebounding with 13.
With the loss, Cairn dropped to 7-10 overall and 3-7 in the CSAC. Summit improved to 2-15 overall and 2-8 in the conference with the win. The Highlanders will next travel to Cabrini College this Saturday, Jan. 30, to take on the Cavaliers.
