Scranton, PA – The men's basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak with a 64-56 win at Marywood University on Wednesday evening. Cairn was led by
JD Zamroz's 16 points in the important conference victory.
The Highlanders led nearly the entire length of the game after taking the lead 1:36 into the first half and not giving it up from there. Cairn's largest lead of the game was 21-11 at the mid-point of the first stanza.
Gerroid Doughty II also played well for the Highlanders, despite not putting up his average 19 points. Doughty scored 12 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, and collected seven assists throughout the game.
Josh Vlna tied Doughty's effort from off the bench by hitting 4-5 shots, including 3-4 from three-point range for 12 total points. Vlna also pulled down five rebounds; all this in just 18 minutes of court time.
Cairn stretched their lead to as many as 10 points during the second half, although Marywood also brought the deficit down to as little as one point on a couple occasions.
Connor Shroyer led the Pacers with 17 off the bench; he also pulled down eight rebounds and had three blocks. Tip Shwartz led Marywood on the boards with 10 total.
With the win, Cairn improved to 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the conference. Marywood fell to 4-10 overall and 0-7 in the CSAC with the loss. The Highlanders will return home this Saturday, Jan. 16, when they host Neumann University at 1 p.m.
