Rosemont, PA – Cairn women's soccer traveled to Rosemont College on Wednesday evening where they lost a close 3-2 contest against the Ravens. The Highlanders dropped to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference with the result, while the Ravens improved to 2-6 overall and 2-1 in the CSAC.
Cairn's goals were scored by
Meghan Wilson and
Alicia Geistdorfer. Both players took two shots total in the game, Wilson also assisted on Geistdorfer's goal. The Highlanders took seven shots overall, as compared to Rosemont's 17.
The Ravens struck first in the game in the 33
rd minute on a made penalty kick by Victoria Kasper. The Highlanders responded just over five minutes later though, when Geistdorfer collected a cross by Wilson and hit a long-distance shot into the upper-right corner of the goal.
Following half time, Wilson put the Highlanders up 2-1 in the 52
nd minute after she took the ball herself into the box from the left side and scored from about 12 yards out. However, Rosemont responded less than two minutes later when Victoria Kasper tied the game at 2-2.
The Highlanders took three more shots on goal throughout the second half but none could make it to the back of the net. The Ravens, however, put away the game-winner in the 69
th minute of the game on a goal by Gina Ragona.
Mackenzie Paugh was slightly more active than her counterpart in the game and made seven saves overall. Corner kicks were level between the two teams with eight each. Rosemont committed 19 fouls in the game, compared to Cairn's seven.
Cairn will next host Lehman College on Saturday, Oct. 3, for homecoming with the game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
