Lancaster, PA – Cairn men's soccer played into two overtimes at Lancaster Bible College on Tuesday afternoon but the game ended with an even 1-1 score. The Chargers were nearly given the win in the first overtime period when Cairn committed a foul in the box but
Mike Warren saved the penalty shot with a diving effort to keep the score level.
The Highlanders struck first early on in the game when
Paul Franco netted his second of the season after a corner kick in the 13
th minute. Cairn took just one more shot throughout the first half to Lancaster Bible's four.
The Chargers then put the pressure on the Highlanders in the second half and led on shots 10-4.
Mike Warren was forced to save four those ten shots but couldn't keep the Chargers out completely. Brian Edman found his way to the goal in the 71
st minute with a header from a corner kick by Josiah Groff.
Today's game marked the fifth time in the past eight meetings for these two teams in which they went into overtime. Cairn had an exciting double overtime win last year when they played at Rosemont College but it appeared that the Highlanders wouldn't repeat the effort. Cairn had just one shot in either overtime to Lancaster Bible's three.
Cairn was led by
Caleb Moore, after Franco, with two shots and two shots on goal.
Craig Kikendall also had two shots in the game, with one shot on frame.
Ahron Park collected one shot—late in the game in the second overtime.
With the tie, the Highlanders move to 3-2-1 overall this season, while the Chargers move to 1-0-2 on the year. Cairn will return to action this Saturday when they travel to Hunter College in New York to take on the Hawks.
