Lancaster, PA – Lancaster Bible College hit five homeruns in the game to account for 10 runs in the Highlanders' defeat on Wednesday afternoon 14-4.
Caleb Lang hit a homer of his own; a solo shot in the sixth inning for Cairn's first run of the game that brought his season total to 9 and career total to 20.
The Highlanders failed to gain any momentum on the Chargers and had just three hits before Lang knocked one over the fence. Lang hit home the team's second run of the day in the seventh inning with a double to score
Zachary Vegh.
John Burlaga then doubled as the next batter up to score Cairn's other two runs. Burlaga sent home Lang as well as
Caleb Moore on the play.
Tyson Rohrs started the game and picked up the loss with 3.2 innings pitched. Rohrs had four strikeouts in the game but gave up eight earned runs.
Albert Taylor relieved Rohrs in the fourth inning and pitched the remaining 4.1 innings.
For Lancaster Bible, Hunter Gray and Nate Long each hit two homeruns in the game; Long put the nail in the coffin in the seventh inning with a grand slam to go up 13-4. Justin Taylor hit the team's other homer in the second inning.
Joey Nieves-Markee led the team with three hits in four at bats. Lang and Burlaga each had two RBI.
The loss brought the Highlanders to 8-26 for the season, while Lancaster Bible improved to 11-19 overall with the win. Braden Elliott picked up the win for the Chargers on the mound by going six innings with six hits and one earned run.
Cairn will have to turn around and travel to St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn, N.Y., tomorrow for a single game slated to begin at 4:00 p.m.
