Bears Too Much For Highlanders; Fall 10-2

Bellerose, NY – The Cairn Highlanders played their second non-conference game in two days on Thursday afternoon and lost 10-2 to St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn). Joey Nieves-Markee went 4-for-5 in the game, collecting four out of the team's seven total hits and increasing his season average to .426.

Nieves-Markee singled in his first four at-bats, three of which went the opposite way to right field. Unfortunately, as the lead-off man in the order, Nieves-Markee couldn't hit anyone home and he wasn't able to reach home plate.

This game was Joey Nieves-Markee's 15th multiple-hit game of the season and fourth game with four hits. He also now leads the team in on-base percentage with a .522.

Cairn scored their two runs in the top of the ninth inning when Caleb Lang doubled down the left field line to bring home Joffrey Rosa. Lang then scored when Zachary Vegh reached on an error by the third baseman.

For St. Joseph's, Mitch Brigando went five innings on the mound to collect the win with six strikeouts and five hits. The Bears started out the game with a homerun their first batter up and continued to build off of their lead from there. Michael Camerada led the Bears with three hits, one RBI, and three runs scored.

Matt Trotman took the loss for the Highlanders and dropped to 2-4 overall this season. Ben Chapman and Caleb Moore also pitched in the game for Cairn.

With the loss, the Highlanders dropped to 8-27 overall, while St. Joseph's improved to 17-16 in 2015. Cairn will go on the road again tomorrow, May 1, when they travel to Neumann University for the start of their final conference series of the season.
