Bridgewater, NJ – Cairn University baseball finished up their conference series with Centenary College this afternoon with a doubleheader at the TD Bank Stadium. The Cyclones were able to sweep the Highlanders in the series by winning both games today, 3-1 and 9-2.
Centenary allowed just three hits in game one and four hits in game two with their pitching from Mitchell Renz in game one and most of their bullpen in game two. Nick Cavanaugh started game two for Centenary but six relief pitchers followed him to close out the game.
Joey Nieves-Markee collected more than half of the team's total hits on the day with two in each game. Nieves-Markee also scored one run in each of the games to account for nearly all of the team's runs. The junior scored on an error in the first game and on a pick-off play in the second game.
The Cyclones scored three runs on eight hits in the first game with
Albert Taylor on the mound for the Highlanders. Taylor also had four strikeouts in the game and went all six innings. Ryan Kanner led the Cyclones with two hits and one run scored.
In game two, Centenary scored six runs in the second inning and held on to the lead throughout the game. Ryan Caparoni led the Cyclones in the second game with two hits, three RBI and two runs scored.
Ben Chapman took the loss in the later game.
The Highlanders dropped to 8-25 overall and 1-14 in the CSAC with the losses. Centenary improved to 17-14 overall and 8-10 in the conference with the wins. Cairn will next play at Lancaster Bible College on Wednesday, Apr. 29, at 3 p.m.
