Langhorne, PA – On a cold and rainy afternoon, the Cairn Highlanders won their fifth game of the year on Tuesday when they hosted the Penn State Brandywine Nittany Lions. Picking up the win with just two hits and one run scored was
Tyson Rohrs, who moved to 2-3 on the year.
The Highlanders held the Nittany Lions to three total hits and had 15 of their own, en route to the 8-1 victory. Leading the team in hits was
Joey Nieves-Markee who went 4-4 with three runs scored.
Caleb Lang collected five of the team's seven RBI on two hits.
Trent Fiori also went 3-5 with one RBI.
Penn State Brandywine started out the game scoring their only run in the first inning. The Nittany Lions scored the run after the first batter walked, stole second, and advanced to third on a failed pick-off attempt. The next batter walked but was then picked off at second base; the runner on third scored on the pick-off.
Neither team scored in the second inning, but the third inning was where Cairn got things going from home plate.
Zachary Vegh and
Joey Nieves-Markee reached on a pair of singles and
Caleb Lang scored Vegh on a single. The Highlanders took the lead in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Lang that scored Nieves-Markee.
The Highlanders pulled further ahead of the Nittany Lions in the bottom of the 7
th inning when Nieves-Markee and
Caleb Moore reached on a single and a fielder's choice.
Caleb Lang then came up to bat and smacked a bases-clearing triple to give the team a 4-1 lead.
Trent Fiori batted Lang home with a single that increased the lead to 5-1.
Cairn scored three more runs in the bottom of the 8
th inning to seal the win.

Albert Taylor. Lang then reached on a fielder's choice, which brought in Vegh. The Highlanders scored their final run of the game when Nieves-Markee used his speed to steal home on a ball four.
The Highlanders improved to 5-12 with the win, while Penn State Brandywine dropped to 4-8 with the loss. Cairn will take a short hiatus from competition for the Easter weekend and return to action on Monday when they host Keystone College for a doubleheader.
