Langhorne, PA – Cairn University played their first conference game of the season and lost to Gwynedd Mercy University this afternoon on the baseball field by a score of 11-0. The Griffins did their damage early on in the game and improved upon that throughout the nine innings.
 
There wasn't a big gap in hits, just 12-7, but the Griffins were able to find a way to bring home their runners where the Highlanders could not. Beau Fleming led the Griffins in hits with three and Christopher Hens batted in three runners.
 
Tyson Rohrs started the game for the Highlanders on the mound and pitched six innings before John Burlaga came in to relieve and pitch the final three. Rohrs recorded four strikeouts with five walks and seven earned runs.
 
Leading the way for Cairn at the plate was John Burlaga who went 2-3; Caleb Lang also had two hits but had four at bats. Recording the other three hits for Cairn was Trent Fiori, Caleb Moore, and John-Michael Stafford.
 
The Griffins were also able to take advantage of five errors committed by the Highlanders throughout the game. Gwynedd Mercy's first two runs of the game came off of an error by Tristan Ortega, which allowed two runners to come around and score.
 
With the loss, Cairn dropped to 4-9 overall and 0-1 in the conference. The Griffins won their first game of the season with the result, as well as in the conference. The two teams will play again tomorrow for a doubleheader scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
