Aston, PA – Cairn men's soccer traveled to Neumann University on Tuesday evening where they won their first CSAC game of the season with a 1-0 victory. The Highlanders goal came in the 47th minute of the game on an own goal by the Knights.
The Highlanders took just two shots in the game, but that was all they would need to move past the Knights. Neumann took 12 shots by comparison, however just three of them were on goal and they were picked up by
Mike Warren.
Leading to the goal was a shot from
Ahron Park that careened into the post and came back out into the field of play. The ball then bounced off of a Neumann defender and into the back of the net.
Craig Kikendall took the Highlanders' other shot in the game but it went wide of the net. Ian Hunter and Christian Cortese led the Knights with two shots each.
Cairn caught Neumann offsides six times in the game and the Highlanders were called off once in the game. Neumann led on corner kicks 4-3.
With the win, the Highlanders improved to 5-5-1 overall this season and 1-1 in the CSAC. The Knights fell to 2-6-1 overall and 1-2 in the conference with the loss. Cairn will turn around and host Gwynedd Mercy University this Saturday, Oct. 10, in Langhorne.
