Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Defeats Griffins For Second Shutout CSAC Win

Langhorne, PA – Cairn men's soccer won their second shutout conference game in a row on Saturday after they defeated Gwynedd Mercy University 2-0. The last time the Highlanders defeated the Griffins was in 2008 with a 1-0 victory.

The Highlanders and Griffins played a scoreless first half but the Highlanders had more chances and forced the keeper to make an acrobatic save on one of them. Cairn came out strong and took five shots in the first 11 minutes of the game.

Craig Kikendall (Philadelphia, PA) opened up the scoring for Cairn in the second half with a laser of a goal in the 48th minute. The shot rang off the inside of the left post and into the net without giving the goalie a chance to stop it. The goal is Kikendall's fourth of the season.

Later on in the half, Caleb Moore (Monroeville, NJ) gave the Highlanders an insurance goal after he stole the ball from a defender in the Griffins' half of the field and had a breakaway on the goalie. Moore calmly took a low shot past the goalie to the left side of the goal for the 2-0 lead.

The Griffins were not able to test Mike Warren (East Meadow, NY) throughout the rest of the game and the Highlanders won 2-0. Warren finished with three saves in his second shutout of the season and lowered his goals against average to 1.72 for 2015.

Kikendall and Ahron Park (Newark, DE) led the team in shots with three each; Connor Wiliams tied Kikendall and Moore in shots on goal with two.

With the win, The Highlanders improved to 6-5-1 for the season and 2-1 in the conference. The Griffins fell to 4-9-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the CSAC with the loss. Cairn will next host Summit University on Monday, Oct. 12, at 3:30 p.m.
