Langhorne, PA – Cairn men's soccer won their third CSAC shutout in a row on Monday afternoon, after their 2-0 defeat of Summit University.
Noah Egelkamp (Havertown, PA) and
Brady Dorman (Salisbury, MD) each registered their first collegiate goals to give the Highlanders the advantage.
The Highlanders were held scoreless through the first 45 minutes despite getting off 12 shots with five of them on goal. Ben Campbell made saves on each of those five shots on goal to keep the Highlanders off the board. Summit took four shots in the first half with one on goal from distance, which was saved by
Mike Warren (East Meadow, NY).
The Defenders were unable to take a shot in the second half as the Highlanders controlled the ball for a majority of the 45 minutes.
The second half started out with a flurry for the Highlanders when
Ahron Park (Newark, DE) hit the crossbar after a pass was sent into the box from
Connor Eby (Kansas City, MO). Cairn took five more shots over the next five minutes before the Highlanders scored the opening goal.
A foul committed by a Summit University player warranted a yellow card and allowed for a free kick from just over the half field mark for the Highlanders.
Noah Egelkamp (Havertown, PA) sent a ball into the box for a teammate but the ball bounced once over everybody and went into the goal for the 1-0 lead.
Cairn scored their second goal just over three minutes later after the Highlanders were given a corner kick.
Brady Dorman (Salisbury, MD) took the corner but the initial ball didn't make it into the box.
Corey Nolan (Philadelphia, PA) hustled to get the ball back out to Dorman who one-timed a left-footed shot from the edge of the box that bent around the keeper to the far post.
The Highlanders had a couple other chances later on in the half but were unable to convert. Most importantly though, the back line of
Andrew Gordon (Harleysville, PA),
Kenneth Mercadante (Toms River, NJ),
Tyler Smith (Townsend, DE), and Egelkamp were able to keep Summit's top scorer, Wesley Pincince, from taking a shot in the second half.
With the win, Cairn improved to 7-5-1 overall and 3-1 in the CSAC. Cairn is now tied with Immaculata University for second place in the conference with their record. Summit fell to 2-11 overall and 0-4 in the conference with the loss.
The Highlanders will next travel to Keystone College on Saturday, Oct. 17, to take on the Giants.
