La Plume, PA – Cairn men's soccer traveled to Keystone College on Saturday afternoon, where they were defeated by the Giants 3-1 in conference action. Prior to this game, the Highlanders had given up just one goal by a CSAC opponent in four games.
The Highlanders and Giants were evenly matched on the stats sheet after the game, with shots and shots on goal off by just one between the teams. Keystone appeared to be able to take better advantage of the opportunities they were given throughout the game.
Cairn found opportunities early on within a spread of five minutes, but were not able to capitalize. The Highlanders took five shots in that five minute span but two shots were saved, two went wide, and one was blocked. Cairn followed that up with two corner kicks but no shots came out of them.
The Giants scored the opening goal in the 30th minute with a goal from Abreham Kittel. Keystone added their second goal ten minutes later by Brandyn Favero. Keystone held the 2-0 advantage going into the halftime break.
Craig Kikendall (Philadelphia, PA) cut the deficit in half in the 67th minute when his shot from outside of the box took a deflection off the defense and found its way into the back of the net. Kikendall finished the game with six shots; four of which were on goal.
Unfortunately, Keystone scored their third goal just over two minutes later to add some insurance to their lead. Kouassi Kouadio scored the final goal for the Giants. The Highlanders took four more shots before the final whistle sounded but they couldn't find their way onto the scoreboard.
Brady Dorman (Salisbury, MD) finished with three shots and one on goal, while
Ahron Park (Newark, DE) had one shot on goal for the Highlanders.
Mark Heater (Harrisburg, PA) played the full 90 minutes for Cairn and made three saves in goal.
With the loss, Cairn dropped to 7-6-1 overall and 3-2 in the CSAC. Keystone improved to 6-5-1 overall and 3-2 in the conference with the win. The Highlanders will next travel to Marywood University on Wednesday, Oct. 21, to take on the Pacers.
