Women's Soccer Wins 4-2 Over Gators At Home

Langhorne, PA – Cairn women's soccer improved to 5-5 in CSAC play with a 4-2 win over Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday afternoon. Payton Emerick (Hyndman, PA/Calvary Christian Academy) led the team with two goals in the game for her third and fourth goals of the season.
 
On senior day for the Highlanders, Laurisa Wager (Victor, NY/Homeschool) was honored and scored the team's first goal of the game in the third minute. Meghan Wilson (New Hope, PA/New Hope-Solebury) took the ball to the end line and passed the ball in the box to Wager who scored from the penalty spot.
 
The Highlanders took a 2-0 lead in the 18th minute when Emerick scored her first of the game after a saved shot from Alicia Geistdorfer (Perkiomenville, PA/Christopher Dock). The ball was deflected out into the box where Emerick was able to tap in the rebound.
 
Cairn took the lead into the halftime break but Notre Dame cut the lead in half in the 49th minute of the game. The Gators scored on a goal from Lauren Santi who took the ball from half field all the way to the net.
 
Emerick put the Highlanders up 3-1 in the 61st minute of the game after she collected a ball in the offensive third and beat the last defender. Her shot went across to the left side of the net to beat the keeper.
 
The Highlanders then went up 4-1 in the 81st minute with Meghan Wilson (New Hope, PA/New Hope-Solebury)'s 16th goal of the season. Geistdorfer crossed a ball into the box where it deflected off of Emerick to Wilson who put the ball into the net.
 
Notre Dame scored again before the end of the game but the Highlanders held off the Gators to take the win. Cairn improved to 7-9 overall with the result. Notre Dame fell to 8-6-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the CSAC with the loss.
 
Cairn will next travel to Keystone College on Tuesday, Oct. 27, to take on the Giants for their final game of the regular season.
