Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Highlanders Down Falcons In 5-0 Shutout

Langhorne, PA – Cairn women's soccer won their fourth conference game of the season on Tuesday afternoon following a 5-0 defeat of Cedar Crest College. The Highlanders put away four goals in the second half by four different players for the win.

The two CSAC teams played an even match through the first half despite the shot count being in favor of the Highlanders. Cedar Crest looked like they struck first in the ninth minute of the game when they were awarded a free kick outside of the box.

The ball was sent in close to the mouth of the goal and was redirected in. However, the referee called the Falcons offside on the play and the goal was taken back. It so happened that on the same play, two Highlanders were given yellow cards for charging at the ball before it was kicked.

Cairn opened up the scoring in the 31st minute after working to get a free kick near the end line and outside of the box. Alyssa Leister (Montgomery Township, PA/Christopher Dock) took the kick and found a charging Alicia Geistdorfer (Perkiomenville, PA/Christopher Dock) in the box who slid a low shot through the hands of the Falcons' goalie.

The Highlanders continued from there in the 57th minute with a goal from Payton Emerick (Hyndman, PA/Calvary Christian Academy). Laurisa Wager (Victor, NY/Homeschool) crossed a ball to the box and Emerick put her shot in the lower left corner.

Cairn's next goal was scored in the 77th minute when Meghan Wilson (New Hope, PA/New Hope-Solebury) collected a ball near the top of the box and made a nice move to get the shot off; it was her 16th goal of the season. Just over one minute later, Leister scored in the top right corner after a great through ball was sent to her from Wager.

Geistdorfer scored the final goal for the Highlanders in the 84th minute with a long shot to the upper right corner of the goal. Overall, Cairn out-shot Cedar Crest 18-9, while both keepers made two saves in the game.

With the win, Cairn improved to 6-9 overall and 4-5 in the CSAC. Cedar Crest dropped to 4-9-2 overall and 0-8 in the conference with the loss. The Highlanders will return to action this Saturday, Oct. 24, for their final home game of the season against Notre Dame of Maryland University.
