Clarks Summit, PA – Cairn women's soccer traveled to Summit University on Tuesday evening and defeated the Defenders in a high scoring, 7-4 win.
Alyssa Leister (Montgomery Township, PA/Christopher Dock) erupted for four goals for the Highlanders after not scoring previous to today's game.
Alicia Geistdorfer (Perkiomenville, PA/Christopher Dock),
Meghan Wilson (New Hope, PA/New Hope-Solebury), and
Annalise Shumski (Levittown, PA/Pennsbury H.S.) added the other three goals for Cairn.
It took 12 minutes for the teams to get things going, but they were pushing it when they did. Leister started it off in the 13th minute after she took advantage of a deflection and knocked the ball into the goal. Geistdorfer scored her goal just over two minutes later off an assist from Wilson.
Summit responded with their first goal in the 17th minute with a shot from Shalynne Laman to make it 2-1.
Leister scored her second goal in the 22nd minute with another assist from Wilson. With a 3-1 lead, Summit came back to score three unanswered over the next 13 minutes to take a 4-3 lead.
Halftime still hadn't come before Shumski tied the game at 4-4 in the 44th minute. Leister assisted on Shumski's goal with a cross across the box.
Mackenzie Paugh (Galloway, NJ/Absegami ) made six saves in goal for the Highlanders in the first half; she finished with seven saves total. Her opposition, Elysia Hinkel, also made seven saves throughout the game.
Cairn was able to limit the offensive power of Summit in the second half and allowed just one shot on goal that was saved by Paugh. The Highlanders took 10 shots in the second half for 28 total in the game.
Alyssa Leister (Montgomery Township, PA/Christopher Dock) scored twice in the second half and Wilson picked up her goal to top things off in the 69th minute. Leister picked up the game-winner for the Highlanders and finished with five points total.
With the win, Cairn improved to 5-8 overall and 3-4 in the CSAC. Summit fell to 4-8 overall and 2-5 in the conference with the loss. The Highlanders will next travel to Cabrini College on Saturday, Oct. 17, for a 12 p.m. match.
