Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Succumbs To Giants' Offense

Langhorne, PA - On a career night for Reuben Lacy, the Highlanders couldn't get ahead of the Giants of Keystone College and dropped an 80-67 CSAC matchup on Wednesday night. Lacy put up 28 points and 11 rebounds including a dunk in the first half, but it wasn't enough to pull past the Giants.

Early on in the game the Highlanders were firing on all cylinders and dishing the ball out to whoever could score. Six different players scored the team's first 18 points - all of which were field goals accompanied by assists.

Cairn took the lead 22-14 shortly thereafter but that's when Keystone started to disrupt the Highlanders' progress. The Giants changed their defensive strategy and started putting more pressure on the ball, causing Cairn to commit turnovers. Furthermore, the Highlanders only had one more assisted play after Keystone's defensive switch.

The Highlanders stayed even with the Giants on the scoreboard throughout the first half until there were less than two minutes to play when Duncan Lunsford hit a three-pointer and four free-throws were made. Lacy added a buzzer-beating layup to keep Cairn within six at 36-30 going into the locker rooms.

Cairn came back to within two in the second half thanks to a couple of three-pointers by JD Zamroz. The long-range buckets by Zamroz cut the lead to 40-38 at the 17:16 mark but Keystone found a way to stretch their lead to 11 by 15:14 in the second half.

From then on out, each time the Highlanders came close to reining in the deficit, the Giants' offense took over. The last time this happened the Highlanders got the lead down to five with 2:13 on the clock. Keystone's Miles Dargan spoiled the comeback with a three-point shot and all but sealed the win for the Giants.

Overall the Giants shot 10-28 from beyond the arc and 26-61 from the field. The Highlanders had better percentages, shooting 4-11 three-pointers and 23-46 field goals. Zamroz finished the game with 14 points behind Lacy's career-high 28. Azariah Parmer also played well for the Highlanders with his eight points and nine rebounds.

With the loss, Cairn falls to 0-10 on the season and 0-4 in conference play, while the Giants earned their first win of the season at 1-9 overall and 1-3 in the CSAC. The Highlanders' next game will be this Saturday, Jan. 10, when they travel to Cabrini College for a 3 p.m. start time.
