Radnor, PA – Cairn fought hard but didn't have enough in the gas tank to beat Cabrini on Saturday afternoon and fell 83-69.
The Highlanders didn't let the Cavaliers out of their sight through the first half and went into the locker rooms down by one, 32-31. Cairn took good possessions and put up quality shots; shooting 52% through the first 20 minutes.
Aaron Stovall led the team with 11 points heading into halftime and was followed by Seil Park and Azariah Parmer with six each. Cabrini's Vinny Walls led the team with 13 points, Sean Mayo was right behind him with 10 points through the first half.
Going into the second half, Cairn continued to play well and compete point-for-point with Cabrini. The Cavaliers then hit a big three to go up 50-47 with 12:50 left in the second half. They followed that up with a transition layup and built a 52-47 lead.
Near the mid-way point in the half, JD Zamroz showed off his hustle forcing a jumpball to give the possession back to the Highlanders. Cairn cut the lead in half on the following play to 52-50 with a follow-up rebound and layup by Omar Askia.
Cabrini then increased their lead to 61-52 with 7:20 left for their largest lead to that point. Cairn cut the lead back to 61-56 over the next few possessions to stay within striking distance.
The Cavaliers came back to capitalize on Cairn misses and built a 66-56 lead capped off by a three-pointer from the corner. The Highlanders couldn't recover from then on and the Cavaliers finished off the game with a 14-point victory.
Reuben Lacy finished with 16 points to lead the team. Azariah Parmer finished with a season-high 13 points and Omar Askia put away 12 in the game. Leading the way for Cabrini was Walls with 22 points.
Cairn dropped to 0-11 overall and 0-5 in the conference with the result. Cabrini improved to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in the CSAC. The Highlanders will next play at Rosemont College on Monday, Jan. 12, at 8 p.m.
