Rosemont, PA - The Highlanders fell prey to the Ravens of Rosemont College on Monday evening by a 67-48 margin in men's basketball action. Rosemont has now won five straight games, all within the CSAC and improved to 7-7 on the year.
Cairn University went into the game with hopes but ultimately dropped to 0-12 on the season with the loss.
Reuben Lacy continued to lead the squad with 15 points and was followed by
Omar Askia with 12.
The Highlanders went down early on in the game due to the pressure put on by the man-to-man defense of the Ravens. Rosemont built a 16-5 lead but Cairn pulled back to within five at 16-11 moments later.
A three-pointer by Kyle Lafferty stretched the lead back out for Rosemont and they would keep it that way until the end of the first half. Lacy scored eight of his 15 points in the first half, while Marcus Thomas scored nine of his points in the first half all on three-pointers.
Shots from beyond-the-arc made a big difference in the game's outcome; Cairn hit just one of 11 shots for three, while Rosemont made seven of 17 in the game.
The Highlanders clawed their way back into the game after coming out of the locker rooms - like they often have done this season - and pulled to within 32-30. Rosemont then lept to a 40-32 lead but
Darnell Clowney kept the team close with two driving baskets and cut the deficit back to four.
Once again Rosement edged out a bigger lead and Cairn tried to play catch up. With about six minutes on the clock Askia drove down the lane to take on the wall of Ravens and got the bucket with the foul. Askia made his shot at the line and the score was 49-42 Rosemont.
That was the closest Cairn would come for the remainder of the game as Rosemont's Dom Scafidi scored the next four baskets for nine points. The Ravens finished off with a 19-point victory despite a well-fought game by the Highlanders.
Cairn will next play host to Immaculata University, currently atop the CSAC standings, on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m.
