Poor First Half Spells End for Highlanders

Box Score Rosemont, PA- In the denouement of the Cairn Highlanders men's basketball season they were defeated by the Rosemont Ravens, 81-61.

Box Score

The Highlanders fell down early by fifteen points, 21-6, as they were unable to find any consistent scoring on the offensive end.  Cairn found a temporary solution for their offensive woes when sophomore guard Kyle Bonner checked into the game and promptly scored seven straight points.  The Highlanders struggled for the remainder of the half, only managing to shoot 30% from the field and 25% from three before the break.  Outside of Bonner's eight first half points and Darnell Clowney's seven, the Highlanders simply could not put the ball in the basket, entering the break lagging behind the Ravens by a score of 46-22.

The second half saw the Highlanders find their shooting strokes and mount a quick 7-0 run to start the half.  The Ravens showed poise and maintained a substantial lead for the majority of the half; until the eight minute mark when Cairn embarked on a 13-0 run that would bring the Highlanders as close as they would come.  Cairn exhibited flashes of the talent and resiliency that they have illustrated all season, outscoring the Ravens, a CSAC playoff team, in the second half.  Despite the Highlanders best efforts, the Ravens defeated Cairn, 81-61, drawing the curtain on the Highlanders season.

Cairn's top performers for the night were:

Reuben Lacy (17 points, 4 rebounds)
Darnell Clowney (11 points, 4 rebounds)

Cairn's loss tonight ended the Highlanders season and put a close on the careers of two Highlanders, four year contributor Charles Hopkins and former volleyball player Ethan Mawhinney.  Hopkins totaled 429 points and 143 assists for his career, while Mawhinney tallied his first two points in tonight's contest.
