MBB: Cairn Beats Penn State Brandywine to advance to the Conference Championship

Media, PA – #3 Seed Cairn knocks-off #2 Seed Penn State Brandywine.

The Highlanders allowed Penn State Brandywine (17-10 / 11-2 UNITED EAST) to jump out to an early 8-0 lead after a short jumper and a pair of 3-pointers. Graduate guard Chris Hill (Charlotte, NC / Saint Augustine's University)responded with 5 consecutive points for the Highlanders. The Lions controlled much of the first half, building a 16 point lead with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Cairn (21-6 / 11-2 UNITED EAST) found their footing and shrunk the lead to 4 after graduate guard Corey Baldwin (Henderson, NC / Averett) connected on 2 shots from beyond the arc. The Lions reclaimed the momentum and rebuilt the lead to 11 points entering halftime.

Graduate guards Jaylon Simpson (Atlanta, GA / Belmont Abbey) and Ron Ayers (Prince George's County, MD / Stevenson University) came out of the break swinging for Cairn, the pair scored the first 7 points of the half. The Highlanders maintained this momentum, claiming the lead and crafting a 7 point advantage following a pair of made free throws by Ayers. With just over 3 minutes remaining a triple by Baldwin and some free throws by Hill pushed the Cairn lead out to 12 points. The Lions shrunk the lead all the way to 3 before Ayers secured a rebound and sunk 2 free-throws to ice the game.

Cairn returns to action by hosting Penn State Harrisburg for the United East Championship on Saturday February 28th at 2 PM.
