Cairn Dropped by Defenders in Tight Contest

Box Score Clarks Summit, PA- A second half flurry of points from the Cairn Highlanders was not enough to overcome the lead Baptist Bible College built in the first half, as the Highlanders fell 94-83.

Box Score

Cairn traveled to Baptist Bible College hoping to achieve a season sweep of their rivals, the Defenders.  BBC had different plans though, as the Defenders used an 11-1 run, and jumped out to a fourteen point lead in the first seven minutes of gameplay.  The Highlanders could not seem to find any offensive production in the first half outside of junior guard Darnell Clowney.   Clowney tallied twelve first half points, but no other Highlander scored more than five points in the first period.  BBC quashed every run the Highlanders attempted in the first half, and Cairn entered the break trailing 47-30.

The HIghlanders began to pour in points in earnest in the second half, hoping to overtake the Defenders.  The Highlanders were able to bring the Defenders lead as low as twelve points, but the Defenders constantly found responses to the Highlanders efforts.  After an 8-0 BBC run put the Defenders up by twenty-seven points, things certainly seemed bleak for the Cairn squad.  With about three minutes left in the contest though, Clowney, Reuben Lacy, and JD Zamroz began to find their shooting strokes and give BBC a scare.  Ultimately, their efforts fell short, and the Defenders were able to conquer the Highlanders by a score of 94-83.

The Highlanders outscored the Defenders in the second half, 53-47, largely due to the aforementioned trio's scoring output.  ClowneyLacy, and Zamroz combined for 45 of the Highlanders 53 points in the second half, with Clowney tallying an impressive nineteen second half points.

Clowney's career night was not enough to carry the Highlanders, but the junior guard still deserves recognition for his monster 31 point outburst against the Defenders.  Lacy recorded another double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds on the night.  To conclude the Highlanders noteworthy performers for the night, Zamroz totaled 14 points on the night.

The Highlanders will conclude regular season play on Wednesday night at Rosemont College, as they will take on the Ravens at 8:00 PM.
