Allentown, PA - The Highlanders competed in the Scotty Wood Tournament hosted by Muhlenberg College Friday night. Cairn was unable to find their footing offensively and fell to the Mules 43-88 dropping their overall record to 0-2 on the young season.
The Highlanders came out of the gates on fire against the Mules with
Reuben Lacy scoring the first two points of the game, and Cairn leading by as many as six points halfway through the first period. Cairn was not able to sustain their offensive presence as a cold streak allowed the Mules to mount a 17-0 run over the next six minutes of gameplay. Outside of
Lacy and his twelve first half points, Cairn had only three other players make field goals, and shot a lackluster 26% for the first half.
At the start of the second half, Muhlenberg added to their lead with another big run that concluded with the Mules scoring twenty points to Cairn's four. These two offensive cold streaks were too much for the Highlanders to overcome, as Cairn was eventually defeated by the Mules by a final score of 43-88.
Reuben Lacy was the lone offensive bright spot for the Highlanders totaling 15 points and 8 rebounds for the contest. Cairn simply could not find another offensive spark to play Robin to
Lacy's offensive Batman and fend off the Mules constant pressure.
Despite an 0-2 record, the Highlanders should be encouraged by their performance so far, as despite injuries and some shooting struggles, Cairn has shown flashes of promise over their first two games. Coach
Jason O'Connell and his team will look to achieve their first win of the season against FDU-Florham Saturday at 3:00 pm.
